Postgraduate students nominate DMU for national award

Postgraduate students have rated their experience at ÖÆ·þÎÞÂë Leicester (DMU) so highly, it could lead to a national award.

DMU has been shortlisted for this year’s What Uni? Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs), which are based on student feedback.

The university is in the running for the postgraduate category, with winners to be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 21 May.

Professor Philip McTernan, head of DMU’s Doctoral College, said this was rewarding recognition.

He said: “We are proud of the experience we provide for postgraduate students so to have been recognised by them in this way is the best kind of feedback.

“We work with leading employers and professional bodies to make sure we provide students with the skills and experience employers expect from candidates in a competitive job market.”

The university is hoping to improve on its 2024 performance, where it was ranked eighth in the postgraduate category.

Over the last few months, the WUSCAs review collection team visited over 100 university campuses across the UK, gathering over 36,000 reviews from students.

Students had the opportunity to independently review their university experiences across various categories, including Lecturers and teaching quality, Student support, and Halls and student accommodation

Now in its 12th year, the WUSCAs is the only higher education awards ceremony in the UK where institutions are judged and reviewed solely by students themselves.

The 36,800 student reviews collected this year provide independent insights for institutions on how they are delivering for students, what they are doing right and what they can improve.

The university has a strong history in the WUSCA awards. In 2021, DMU was named in the top three for both Graduate Outcomes and Excellence in Digital Innovation, and in 2022, was ranked 14th in the ‘University of the Year’ category.

DMU welcomes many postgraduate to its Leicester campus each year, and will later this year open the doors of DMU London, its new campus, based in the heart of the world-famous capital. The London campus combines the outstanding teaching, latest research and established business networks of DMU Leicester, with unique courses that embed both employability and sustainability into the curriculum.
